RCD510 retrofit
« on: 31 May 2014, 13:02 »
Hey all,

Recently got myself a MK6 gti which is my pride and joy, got a little cash together now and slowly but surely taking care of the mods that I want carried out.

Next on the agenda is replacing the RCD310 with either the RCD or RNS 510 and I have a couple of probably stupid questions.

First things first, are there any 510's out there which somebody is willing to part with? If so, how much? I have been in touch with the local dealership and they have quoted a figure which has blatantly just been pulled out of their arse! Then I asked about the bluetooth phone prep install as well as compatibility with the multi function wheel to which they said it cannot be done, again bollocks?!

Next, I think this should be a straight swap, but not too sure if any VAG codes are required? I've seen a few older posts but thinking that things may of changed since then.

Any advise is appreciated.

North East driver here that isn't too arsed about getting in the car and putting my foot down if need be, if any of you out there are able to help out.

Cheers fellas

One can be had from Ebay for £400 up. Pull the plastic trim off. 4 torx bolts, think 3 connectors and pop the new one in. press on and key in the code and you should be good to go.
Audi S1 gone, awaiting 1.5tsi r-line, pan roof, led lights front and rear, active dash, 18" jurva alloys and a dealer fitted Oettinger roof spoiler in tornado red.

What he said.... Just be careful the plastic trim is a bit flimsy and the clips on it hold it in tight no coding required just plug and play

If you are going to buy one, hold out for one with DAB.

The dealers will tell you that Bluetooth can't be retro fitted, because it can't be done using all genuine parts. All the aftermarket kits use a piggyback wiring harness that goes between the radio and the BT module and VW won't be able to give a warranty on a none approved part.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
