Thermostat Replacement & Cruise Control
« on: 30 May 2014, 16:39 »
Afternoon all,

Along with my mk3 i am now the owner of a mk5 TDi, its the 1.9L BKC block and it has an issue with the thermostat. I am sure that it is stuck open as the only time it starts to warm up is when it has been sat for 45+ mins of traffic.

From what I can gather the thermostat housing is on the left hand side of the block under the alt. is this correct? Has anyone got any info on how to change it out?

I am going to be doing a coolant change at the same time as I don't think its been done in the last 3 years!!!

Along with the other things on my list I am looking to add cruise control for my longer trips for work. Is there a guide to retrofit the stalk and also what is needed to get it working? will I need to change my clocks?

Any help is appreciated

Cheers all

thermostat change can't say where this sits or how to change on mk5 (well, take out what's in the way, unbolt... put new one on etc ;) )

cruise retrofit you will need cruise stalk obviously and perhaps a new bcm control unit. that will depend on what you have at the moment (not all support cc), then obviously needs coding in.

Thanks for the reply, I know where the Thermostat is just wanted to look through a guide to see what was involved and see if anyone came across any issues.

Would I be right in thinking that I can transfer the stalk and module from another car and that would work ok?
