I'm conflicted as to whether to buy an MK2?!

just go for the mk2 if its what you really want as you might not get another chance so if you want it an can afford it go for it  an shop around for insurance

your only young once sensible replies i.e start off with a pov spec car etc but if you really want a mk2 and who wouldn't  go for it

There was a golf meet on Sunday at Ashbourne,other models there as we'll but mainly golfs

Get a MK2 1.3 for a first car, keep insurance down and build up NCD. That's what I did.
