Golf GTI Mk6 Brake Pad Upgrade
« on: 26 May 2014, 15:17 »
Hi there - I know this has been brought up but wondered if there were any new opinions or thoughts aswell as me being new to the forum! I am in a 2009 GTI and the pads are nearly ready to be changed and not sure what to get.

Im pretty hard on the brakes, mixture of lots of back B roads, a couple of track days and her running at about 270hp has meant the OEM pads have lasted me 7k miles... Wondered what the best upgrade is generally thought to be. I see on the american forum, stoptech seem to be the ones? However they appear to be hard to come by over here. Some people also talk of yellowstuff but i've heard conflicting things....

Has anyone had any experience or advice on what to upgrade to?

I can't say anything about stoptech (except there straight out of compton (If you know your old rap music that will make sense))

I can say ebc do have there liker's and haters and personally I've not a bad word to say against them (same with some people on here who use ebc as race pads).

b.t.w I sell the yellow's at £135 or red's at £125 (for PR-1LM vehicles)

There's loads of readily available stuff out there for the gti

Mintex M1144 or Ferodo DS2500 are both decent pads that will cope with light track work, Ferodo DS performance are also great pads if you're bothered about keeping things road legal in a technical sense..
Tarox, Brembo and Hawk all do pads in Gti fitment too

That's really kind, thank you. I think I might give the Ferodo DS2500 a go and see if there is a decent improvement! Thanks

I think the only problem with EBC is the amount of brake dust, check after a week and i bet your wheels will be black. But good stopping power...
