Stop/Start and Brake Lights

Does anyone know if the brake lights are supposed to be 'on' when Stop/Start is active?

Thanks.

Yep. When you are in auto-hold mode (when the green park-brake light is lit in your dash), then the rear brake lights stay on!

I hope I don't have to follow one at night then! I'll have to remember to turn off auto hold to stop lighting up the driver behind.

The rear end LED's of a Mk7 Golf are bright enough to burn your retinas - I had the misfortune to be following the other half in my car for a few miles around town ....... and god she uses the brakes a lot!

Followed mine recently too and she has a pretty rear and actually wifes not too bad either  haha

But the MK7 does have a pretty rear and you have to love them LED Clusters and way indicators work, make it really stand out from pretty much most conventional cars let alone other Golfs.

However they are on a lot and maybe due to wife but more so due to the auto hold.

Auto Hold to me has become one of those innate not thought to things where I just stop and go and not worry about how its stopped and as that has become my natural way of driving I would not think to turn it off at all, it stays on permanently.

Think there is a case that auto hold should not have brake lights on as there is not any loss in safety.

You brake up to the point you are stationary at a junction > auto hold activates and brake lights go off, much as if putting handbrake on in a conventional set up.

There is nothing worse sitting behind someone with their brake lights on. Especially 4x4s that are usually at eye level.
I wonder if this can this be turned off in VCDS?

Who cares. They're not blinding you if you are behind the wheel

Besides, VW aren't alone in this. Audi / BMW, etc. all have really bright rear LED's these days. Better than the old school blown bulbs everywhere me thinks.

Try explaining that to the insurance company when your rear ended!!

Think VW could set it up that when auto hold is on the brake lights turn off but would personally not mess with any safety features set up. Far too many potential consequences.
