2 years ago I purchased a mk3 golf gti 8v (1996) . I sent it to the friend who does bodywork and over 2 years had the car restored and resprayed    so over the last 2 years the car has hardly moved . I got it back today , nice and shiny . now the problem bits , the car runs ok then after a couple of minutes splutters and starts to cut out , then when the car is up to temperature the oil light flashes intermediately (the oil level is ok ) also the abs and airbag lights are on . any ideas !!!! thanks

Hello mate, I have had the same problem, does your car rev +5000 RPM once started? It may be your timing belt or something along them lines.. I had the same problem with mine and my MK3 Gti only has 88k on it,

My abs light also comes on when i leave my engine running, i was told its due to the brakes being cold? I dont know how true that is though..

Hopefully someone can offer some better advice!

Peace x

Google U281 code reader, scan the car for faults.
Fix bits that show up on reader.
Clean out throttle body with carb/solvent cleaner.
Check and replace missing damaged vac pipes.
Clean pick up on oil pipe in sump

Post this sort of thing the in Mk3 section, but be warned if you fail to use the search function and post a nooby question then any sarcasm or low brow humor will be of your own creation
