As already said, it's just engine protection, most modern cars won't rev beyond about 3k with the clutch in, GTD's do have launch control btw.

What??? Really???   The launch control I am asking about Jimble

Hang on.....

Goes off to make sure i'm not talkin sh!te!!

They do (DSG's) have launch control - my MK6 GT TDI DSG had it to - AFAIK its on all the 6 spd DSG gearboxes

Its quite epic tbf in the GTD, the traction the car keeps over driving yourself is quite something. Only tried a few times you need to switch off traction control and put into sport mode in a certain order too.  One for the lights

Launch control is only required on an auto box - you don't need it in a manual because you can launch it yourself by dropping in the clutch at the right point.

That's all the launch does, it allows you to put your foot on the brake and let the revs rise before dropping in the clutch when you pull your foot off the brake.

Works pretty well too, though I have no idea when I would ever try it again (you have to do these things once though huh!)

It's not really a requirement for the vast majority of people. Only those few who may want to track their car or do 1/4 mile runs. Launch control really only works with a DSG gearbox as with manual you are never going to be able to match the gear changes and hence your not going to get the same ferocious launch. Plus for it to work to its full potential it really also requires awd for traction off the line. A DSG R is a perfect platform for launch control

Well if the GTD's is anything like the GTi's - then the LC has been configured to use too many revs as with the TC off there is far too much wheelspin and some tramping ......

I think my car is faster going flat from rest in sport mode!

It bodes well for the R as it produces dramatically uncomfortable acceleration in a Nissan GTR or Porsche 911 Turbo .....

I've only tried it once, however it seemed to control the wheel spin well on my gti... It will depend on surface etc though I'm sure....

It's hard enough to prevent tramping in a GTD at the best of times when pulling away with more than 60% throttle from a standstill, I can't imagine the situation improving with use of launch control.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I don't want to veer off topic but I wonder if those who have changed to shorter/stiffer springs still experience the same degree of tramping?
