Great post Exonian!

Don't know wether you wanted us to choose or not but here goes:

5 door lines for me (even tough I amended my order from 3 to 5 door)

Much prefer the standard axe head alloys to the BBS (not a fan).
Current: BMW M140i / ZF8 / 5 DR

Err, thanks!

No, my mate just happened to be about in a new GTI this weekend so I thought it rude not to go for a drive out and take a few shots.

Personally, up close the 3 door details still do it for me but aesthetically they both carry the styling off well.
The mk1 style rear windows, better interior door lighting and natty rear cup holders make the three door more pleasing to me after 3 five door GTIs on the trot previously.
The 5 door just reminds me of the mk6 too much and it loses the nice alu sill trim and door led strip in the rear which looks a bit 'budget'.
I miss the practicality of the 5 door though.

The BBS look a lot better in the flesh as the CKs have very 3D styling. Plus they fill the arches a lot better! If they did the Austins in 8x19 ET45 I'd sign up for a set!!!
I'd have ordered the Santiagos but as I already had the BBS from my mk6s then they had to stay.
For those that say BBS don't qualify as OEM then you need to do your homework on GTI history!!! Plus if the Santiagos had been about a £600 option like they should be they'd be more tempting. I guess that pales into insignificance if you're paying it off monthly...

No I just though I'd post up the photos for everyone to look at and we all have our own opinions.

I don't see what you mean by the 3dr's lines, What lines? the door looks disproportionate (too long) to the rest of the car, I know this is to aid rear access. Also the C pillar also looks too long compared to the 5dr.

I'm not being biased, If I didn't need mine as a family car then I would've still chose the 5dr as I think it looks better portioned.

Each to their own etc, just my two pennies worth :D

The three door looks a bit strange to me with the boxy rear - like wasted space. The five door makes better use of it

Both lovely but the 5 door just edges it.  Wheelwise the BBS CK's get my vote

I like them both around the same, which is rare for a car to look as good in 5 door as 3. Due to the 5 door retaining an extra £700 on the GFVs over the 3 door, it is essentially a "free" option. Had all 3 door Golfs and Sciroccos in the past, it is so damn handy to have those extra 2 doors even without regular back seat passengers, like dropping your coat on the back seat etc.

Probably a little too much to say life changing  but having had back to back 3 doors it pretty much has been as it literally was driving me nuts having people get in and out as well as it not being the most easy of tasks for them.

To have that removed has been a true blessing. I get in, the passengers open their doors and get in and we set off

If it was not for this MK7 Golf though imagine I would still be coping with that frustration as the A3 Sportsback was not convincing me and was leaning towards the A3 3 Door. As soon as saw the MK7 in 5 Door it was a decision made for me pretty much then as just looked so good.

My wife drives the car pretty regularly too so I get to see the GTD head up road most days and it always brings a smile  The White, The lines and them GTD wheels are such a great combination.

We plan to keep the GTD long term and replace the now 2nd car in 2016 and imagine it will still be MK7 then and though it would be nice to be looking at the MK8 there is also the benefit that the MK7 will be a mature model with all the options available and me fully aware of what is best car to specify opposed to the ride into the unknown we all had as early MK7 drivers.

I prefer the 5 door, although I am biased.

At least the Golf is the same size whether 3dr or 5dr - I found the rear seat of the A3 3dr to be quite difficult to get into, and then there was less space once you were in. The wheelbase on the 3dr A3 is shorter than the 5dr Sportback.
