possible starter problem
« on: 08 May 2014, 12:15 »
Had a problem with my car tonight (tdi 130 ) where it wouldn't crank over, all the lights went off on the dash like there supposed to and only the battery stayed on, tried turning the key and only got a click , checked  the battery voltage and it was 12.4 and checked it at the starter and it was the same. got the car started after a bump start so turned the car off tried it and wouldn't crank over at all so had to bump start it again. could this be down to the started being goosed or maybe the wiring. before this happened the car was getting driving and then turned it off for about 20mins at most came back and wouldn't start.

any help appreciated

I recently had a problem with my GTI not starting. Sometimes, it would and sometimes it wouldn't.
So i took it to the local specialist and they saw the problem straight away. I needed a new crank sensor.  Fitted and now no problems starting up everytime.

turned out a wire had snapped on the connector which gets the signal from the igniton/ecu to crank so was a nice easy fix after a lot of panicking about the worst
