well he has been a cop for how long ? so he should know the rules and the damage it can cause if he hits someone so he should be a bit more responsible than he has been   

Fair enough, I take your point, but then it sounds like you're saying that anyone who isn't a policeman should be able to drink drive, then plead ignorance?

I'm not a cop, but I (and at least everyone who holds a driving licence I hope) know the rules on drink driving and the potential consequences. Sure, I've not seen the consequences first hand, but that doesn't make me more likely to do it.

I think the point here is the fact that it is everyone's responsibility to follow the law and not drink drive or commit any other offence. But when you are paid not only to be responsible to follow but uphold the law and prevent others breaking it then there Is call for concern..
