Can silicone hose be compressed by much?
« on: 07 May 2014, 22:35 »
I've recently replaced the rubber pipe connecting the pancake pipe to the intercooler (because of a vacuum leak) and have quickly realised that it wasn't 63mm to 63mm, it was instead 60mm to 63mm, so the question is, how much will this silicone pipe compress by? (will it be able to compress down to 60mm?)

what i have -

cheers, Mo

I've fitted it this morning and it still seems to make the sound, I'm almost 100 percent sure it is this pipe that makes the sounds because every time I adjust the silicone pipe / the old pipe the sound changes, but I just can't for the life of me be able to fully fix it. Has anyone else got any ideas on what it might be, because right now its making me think that it isn't a vacuum leak, and maybe just a sounds of it rushing through the metal pipe.

Cheers, Mo

As long as you are using a pretty strudy V band and not a crappy jubilee clilp you should be fine.

Have you checked the pipe that runs from the TB (throttle body) down to the IC is in good condition?

It currently has a decent jubilee clip on it, not a v clip, so that might not help the problem, and As far as I'm aware it's in pretty good condition, I'll take it right off this weekend, and have a proper look at it though.

Why would the sound change each time I adjust that tubing change though , if it was that pipe?

Cheers Mo

Could be anything, if its not connecting probably and is leaking then it could be air rushing out the gap that is changing the noise rather than the actual pipe itself.

Where abouts in Manchester are you?

Your pipe may look in good condition but when under psi (stretched) can reveal cracks etc. Mines on the way out through ages. 16yrs aint to shabby mind

I think I'll just spend another £20 and buy a reducer for it, that's a bit longer
