Strange 1.3 problem
« on: 07 May 2014, 20:42 »
Hi, Iv not long brought a J reg Ryder 1.3. I brought the car with a blown head gasket. I ordered up all the parts I needed and started work.

The problem has come to my attention when putting the engine back together that when of my belts fit.

I'm wondering if the engine has been swapped at some point in its life due to the fact currently running on a weber carb even tho there's a lambda sensor in the exhaust (wires cut) and the has a 5 speed box where as the sticker in the boot states it should have a 4 speed box.

I'm 100% sure it's still a 1.3 engine due to it looking exactly like a polo engine, Iv spent a fair amount of time cleaning the block trying to find am engine code but with no luck (as far as I know it should be just above the gearbox housing on the engine block)

The only things I have are part numbers of the cam pully, cam, block and head but have had no luck with my research

Any help would be great as I just want to order the correct parts and get her back on the road!!

Got a picture of the engine?

All came with pierburg, but lots have been replaced with webers now. I think the only 1300s with lambda sensors would have been the single point injection models - I thought these were only available on later polos or some euro golfs (not certain on this) but didnt think they were on any Uk models.

Also, pretty sure that all run out 1300s had 5 speed boxes (earlier had the option of 4+e i seem to recall)
