GOLF Edition 30 or R32

Hi guys!

I've got £12,000 to spend in the second hand market I've narrowed it down to either a

Golf GTI Edition 30 2007 (Remapped + Exhaust + Inlet ) = 350BHP estimated

Or A

Golf R32 2008 (Miltek exhaust)

Now i use my car only of a weekend for some fun as i have a work van, so i want something thats fast! and puts a smile on my face 

Any suggestions people . . . ?

welcome  the edition 30 will map to more than the 32 also late r32s have massive tax costs but the noise from them is great an the r32 will hold the road a bit better have you looked at the audi s3 to add an extra choice

if its just a toy the R32 will leave you wanting more. if they were easy to get 300bhp from it would be no contest (for me anyway), but the k04 2.0tfsi cars with 350+bhp are wicked fun. As above S3 will let you have use of more of the power at low speeds but the £12k ones aren't going to be as nice an example as an edition 30 or seat cupra you could get for similar money.

Ive just driven a golf r32 for the first time and my honest and first impression was...

I was expecting more, yes i felt it was reasonably quick but i think because its a 3.2 V6 i was expecting more power.
However it felt very planted to the road the sound was UNREAL! and the DSG gearbox was smooth.

Its a tough call ... i think you are right the R32 may leave me wanting more and i think i could be disappointed once I've got use to the speed.

Can any modifications be made to an R32 to improve the speed, i know a Edition 30 a simple map can take it to 300BHP!!

The Edition 30 I'm looking at buying has this spec:

Stage 2 Remap
De cat straight through (turbo back) Milltek Exhaust
Uprated fuel pump
H&R springs
WALK kit
Neuspeed Intake & Carbonfibre Engine Cover
Poly-bushed front wishbones
Quickshift
Uprated clutch and flywheel
Approx 350bhp

you can map the r32 but wont get much out of it or stick a turbo on it but that gets expensive

Humm id rather not go spending a fortune on a r32 to gain 15bhp and to add a turbo is thousands 

Think i will test drive this Edition 30 and give my verdict.

Either way they are both great cars!

Try to drive them back to back for the same body style there very different motors. I had an R32 and loved every minute in it, just plant your foot it brings a big smile to your face the power delivery is very smooth and constant it's very solid feeling on the road with the 4wd and just the weight of the engine up front but yes from 2007 onwards you looking at £475/yr tax. The edition 30 is more popular due to tuning potential a simple remap can achieve 260+ hp. It's all about personnel choice I got the R32 because I always wanted one but knew I'd only have it for 2yr. Now I'm back in a GTi it's very similar but still different.

If I were you I'd be trying to drive both cars to compare and make a decision from there.

Ste just a quick question as i know youve had both the R32 and GTI, dispite the 4/2 WD and engine is the actually car its self the same interms of interior i know the R32 i drove yesterday had no rattles nocks and felt solid. Just wanted to know if the gti is build to a lower standard like the dash made out of a cheaper plastic ect ect... or are they the same car?

a few bits of trim are different but the interior is essentially the same. i do think the clocks/needles look a lot nicer in the R32 though

Yeah the interior is the same just changes dash trims, everything else is same parts
