Oh I do love a good old sanctimonious rant from someone who has decided to make up the facts for themselves

Have you considered that I might just have listed on my policy that 'the airbag/srs system has been either removed, modified or disabled? Nope, I didn't think you had you were far too busy jumping to (the wrong) conclusions

Just for the record, according to my insurance company it's not illegal to disable or modify the system but it may lead to an MoT failure - as it's just passed it's MoT yesterday, that last bit doesn't apply.
Now, onto the bit about fitting aftermarket wheels. Depending on the tester, you can get a fail for that because the wording of the test is that if the airbag is obviously missing or defective, then it's a fail.
http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s05000401.htmAdding a resistor to 'fool' the system into thinking it still has an airbag is absolutely no different to bypassing the system in my opinion. Having an airbag fitted is not compulsory but if it's fitted (and that includes the full wiring loom/sensors etc) it has to work or at least appear to work.
