Advice on polish/MOP

HI all, my black MK1 is covered in swirls and light scratched. Any advice on the best products to use to get rid of these. I have been trying to get hold of some MOP and thought of hiring an electric buffer.
Anyone had good experiences with products?

if it only has light marks then go to a paint supplier and get some hand glaze... this will sort them out, or get a mop and a foam head (verysoft) and use g10 or gold glaze finishing cut,

...or have a go with the new polish from Autoglym called Ultra Deep Shine, it's been made for dark cars and they reckon it's the best stuff they've ever done (well they would say that I suppose !), I don't know if it will take the swirls that are already there out, but it supposed to stop you getting anymore. It does give it a slight cut too to rid any blemishes so it may take some of the existing swirls out first.
Even if it doesn't it will feel like glass and look pretty damn good.

Do a search in the cosmetics section as I recall reading something in there a while back.

Go to a local paint shop and buy medium/fine grade rubbing compound e.g G10. ScrewFix.com also sell G10 rubbing compound.
Make the panel wet. Then use a damp/soft cloth and "cut" (polish) the paint. Keep polishing until the compund dissapears. Then use Mer/Autogym.
This will flatten the paint and remove surface scratchs. Permanent fix but be careful not to do it too much else you will remove the paint and the primer will come up.
Requires alot of elbow grease...good luck.
