Some advice
« on: 30 April 2014, 21:19 »
Hello everybody,

Was hoping to get a bit of advice about a situation I'm in at the minute. Bit of an essay to read so I apologise in advance

I bought a Mk6 golf GTI on Friday 11th April and on Saturday 26th April it broke down. I rang the garage I bought it off and they said to get it recovered to themselves. However, the garage was shutting and I couldn't get it up there in time so I got it recovered to my house and the garage arranged pick up from my house and took it to their garage on Monday 28th April. He said he will have a look for the problem and sort it out for me. He's had the car since Monday and he eventually got it running today. Turns out the problem was injector 4 had jammed open and was gushing petrol into the engine causing it to refuse to start. The engine has been stripped down and a replacement part put in.

There hasn't been mention of payment yet but I was just wondering whether the cost should be covered by the garage since I have only had the car for 15 days before the problem occurred or whether the garage will expect me to foot the bill.

When I bought the car I wasn't offered any kind of warranty that I had to buy so to me this meant the car would come with some sort of warranty either from themselves or by some kind of law for up to 28 days or something along those lines. Thought I'd ask in case he tries to make me pay for it all and I shouldn't have to.

Just after some advice as to whether its like buying a shirt from somewhere and if its faulty you take it back and its replaced for nothing as the goods weren't fit for purpose, if you get what I mean.

All advice is much appreciated

there is another topic posted just a few hours ago or at least today which sounds very much the same as this one.. if you go on the main section under mk6 and scroll down the most recent topics...
are yous connected by any chance? as its both about injectors i belive?

either way its same situation as having a problem in first few weeks of owning the car . if you read most of the posts in that topic it will give you a better understanding mate! if you bought from a main vw dealer you back is more likely to be covered but if its just from some 2nd hand car dealer chances are you may have to pay

Hi, as mentioned, read this thread  http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=266832.0.
and in particular Pld118's response which details some consumer rights.

What year is the car?  Assume it's out of the normal 3 year warranty.  Was it bought as a VW Approved used car?  If it was it will have a VW warranty of usually at least 12 months

It's on a 59 plate so it's out of the standard warranty yeah but I didn't buy from a VW dealer.

I read the bit about the sales of goods law in that post and under that I should have some sort of cover. Ill have to see what he says when it's eventually mentioned.

I didn't ask him to replace anything he just went ahead and done it so I could have that to fall back on possibly

when buying a car from a garage, my first question is "how many day warranty does it come with"

If the Garage doesnt foot the bill after you have spent a very large sum of money with them in the last 28 days, i would assume they are a bunch of utter bellends... im pretty sure you will be fine though.

Currently Standard !!

Hi Prior7,

I'm the guy who made the "New to forum - 7 days since owning Golf MK6 GTI" thread.

Funnily enough, its injector 4 on my car also, and the problem sounds exactly the same as mine. I got given some good advice (you've probably read it), but if I were you, I would push for a no charge seeing as you probably paid a good sum of money for it under a month ago.

Mines a 59 plate as well by the way. Lots of similarities probably!

Good luck mate.
