Help needed please mk4 2.0
« on: 29 April 2014, 20:58 »
Hi all..... I'm pulling my hair out with my golf, it's running not too well! It's a new purchase and it seems by reading around I've bought the wrong engine/model a 2.0 gti. Now I didn't buy it for speed ( a good job) I just really like the car.
Now it's got this hesitation thing going on at all times really unless I just cruise with minimum throttle applied, it feels like it's holding back just slightly then clears after 3.5k rpm if I persist down with the pedal. It's very noticeable uphill as I obviously need to apply more gas to get up the hill, it really bogs down up hill and just refuses to speed up! I'm not sure if related but the idle fluctuates but only very minor.
I've unplugged/cleaned the maf none of which made a difference , I've changed the plugs and leads, no difference. I've no engine check light on either. Any help to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated??
Many thanks

Have you scanned it for fault codes?

Where are you located? Just because there is no engine management light doesn't mean that there is nothing wrong. Lots of fault codes don't throw up the CEL.

I'm in the south west.... Maybe I should go to my nearest vw garage and try them, either that or just go ahead and replace all the common parts one by one!

Both of those are stupid ideas.

Have a look here and see if there is anyone near you with vagcom:

I have a 2.0L, and i live in Bristol. I recently had some problems. I took it to these guys. http://pcmotors.co.uk/# - VW experts.
i thouroughly recommend them. Very pleased with their work.
