I am with Nino.

A car like that on SORN?!?!? My humble, standard 1.8t just wants to be driven and rewards me on many levels - even on the crawl to work.

It is either too precious to drive or the balance and finesse is just gone.

The only time the current owner probably gets rewarded for ownership is in the pub bragging contest.

I may of found another one, but really need guidance for you lot please... Tax ran out yesterday, been speaking to this guy for a few days, he says it has full Service history but not many receipts for 100% proof he said the book has 8 stamps in total so I guess I could contact the garages? it is due a service now and ofc tax, only thing that puts me off is that fact it has not had the clutch, chains or flywheel done, he originally wanted £6500 but after I brought all the above to his attention he is willing to let me have it for £5800...

Service history is as follows...
  • 1st service @ 13,125
  • 2nd @ 21,890
  • 3rd @ 36,017
  • 4th @ 44,797
  • 5th @ 49,212
  • 6th @ 54,683
  • 7th @ 60,784
  • 8th @ 70,013

Current mileage is 87k so in my eyes its 7k overdue. He has said it has had a couple of Heldex services within this, I am awaiting his reply as to when and if it was oil and filter or just oil.
What you lot think? should alarm bells be ringing?

He also emailed me pics below..

I think with any car this age unless it's been owned by an enthusiast it's going to have a had a few service things slip, it's just a case of whether you're confident that this won't have affected the haldex etc.

I certainly wouldn't let the clutch put me off

Looks ok but missed service would worry me as it suggests being run on a tight budget.

I know what you mean. Ive taken a good look at the history feom what ibe been told. As long as the heldex system in my calculations has had at least 3 oil changes and 1 hopefully 2 filter changes i might considder it. I have spoken to euro Performance vw specialist have a really good name up here they have told me they will perform a major service on this for me including sparks, all filters etc etc 41 point check and heldex full system service for £360 all in. Which including the car price is £6160. From what i can see the car has had two instances where the service has been done late. Service 1 which was 3k overdue, service 3 which was 6k overdue and the 3rd one which is due now which would be 7k overdue.

For the money your spending I would prefer all main dealer stamps or at least a well known specialist, once cheaper garages start doing work it smacks of low funds to run the car.

Bills to back up the stamps are always nice, stamped book means nothing mine has 12 stamps in the book and no real bills but with what I have found out since buying it they mean sod all tbh.
