car changed mileage on its own
« on: 23 April 2014, 12:08 »
Bit of an odd one, going to look at a mk3 later,  it's done 70k miles proved by previous mot's and car condition etc.

Owner said for some reason a few months ago the odometer suddenly went up to 750k miles.

Any idea what would of caused that ? Is it likely to cause an issue anywhere else ? And what I can do about it ?

Thanks to anyone who might know!

Me either,  guy seems genuine and I know the actual mileage, so if it was just a case of he fitted new clocks I'm sure he'd say.

Be interesting for the next mot tester to see this year's mileage increase

Never heard of this happening before,  just stick some new clocks in it for what they cost.

Yeah true but then they are still going to read the wrong mileage. From Google it can apparently happen if the battery goes completely flat,  although he said that hasn't happened

Pick the car up tomorrow so can have a better look then
