Temperature gauge

I've got a 1.8t and I've noticed today that the temperature gauge is taking ages to start moving and when it does go up it goes up 3 quarters then slowly go up to half way and back again if I boot it it goes down abit but never sits at half way could I have a thermostat problem

sounds like it  buy a genuine thermostat when you buy 1
