STOP coolant light flashing
« on: 20 April 2014, 15:25 »
So recently when i fire up the AUM 1.8T in the mornings, after 10 seconds or so, the STOP warning shows up with the coolant light flashing.

But then when i turn the car off and back on again it doesnt do it?

Could it be because of the low temperatures in the mornings? Because when it comes to the drive home I dont seem to have any problems.

Anything to worry about? Any Ideas?

Cheers

i would scan it with vag com first off in case its a sensor fault? does it rattle on first start -up? it could most likely be down to the well known oil pick up pipe fault

Have you ever cleaned the oil pickup pipe? It could be that or a dodgy sensor. Get it scanned.

Is the warning in Amber or Red?

If its the latter do not drive it

Ive had the car since july last year so i havnt done that much work to it tbh, its had a service about a month ago.

It doesnt really rattle as such (as in metal clanking)

Anybody got a how to on cleaning the oil pick up pipe?

@ Rhyso, yeah the oil temperature light flashes in red, but  i turn off the car and back on again and its fine :S

I apologise for this but ive just been a massive numpty.

Its the not the oil light thats flashing, its the coolant light

I take it just needs topping up a bit? the level is about half way up the canister.

Oh lordy lordy me

:lipsrsealed:
If it needs toping up that much i would have a look also to see if/where there may be a coolant leak if not then top up to the max line and the warning light will go out these sensors in the coolant bottle can cause problems to usually the light comes on when the bottle is almost empty not at halfway so i suspect a faulty sensor if its that then replace the coolant bottle they are cheap enough and its an easy fix :afro:

As above the sensor prongs in the expansion tank are notorious for failing - try cleaning them with a toothbrush otherwise a new tank can be had for £15 and is easy to replace
