So this week i decided with a long weekend coming up that i would have a couple of days doing one or two things to the golf,so waited until some things i ordered had turned up and set to and set myself abit of time to fit etc,
Decided i couldn't be bothered or to lazy

to keep wiping the de-wipered rear window so i found a good priced mk5 rear aero wiper & arm and re-installed my old wiper motor and fitted the Aero set-up

least i'll be able to see again come winter

next job i decided on having the R32 door trigger look as the chrome oem look i didn't really want and has i have plenty of wet & dry i thought why not,so all doors done and the handbrake button done as well, looks better

Fancied the bora sport look foils but at the moment i could'nt source any clocks and get coded so i opted for replacing the oem foils with these, removed the plastic glass very carefully and masked up the display area and gave the rev counter and speedo a touch of aluminium paint to make it look like the cluster rings and as i have alot of paint well why not

,painted the middle part of the needles the same and fitted the foils, well i have to say i was most dissapointed with them

after re-fitting in the car and testing all the warning lamps half lit or didn't illuminate correctly! if i alligned them with the gauge leds the foils were miles out! also when i tried to align them the illumination was at best crap! most annoying as these are supposed to be replicas of vdo foils (yeah ok) also having got the agu ones some of the warning symbols on them aren't even on the oem foils,so in the end i ditched them and fitted the original foils, still the cluster looks abit better now and if i decide to replace i shall get a oem bora sport cluster and have it coded-lesson learned!!
So how my cluster looks now,

Well at least they look abit different to the standard look plus all my warning lights are where they should be

So finally i'm looking at a few engine bay cosmetics for now so having been given a cam cover i got a replacement gasket set (spark plug one leaking slightly anyway) plus i had painted the coil packs last week and the lower engine cover,i cleaned up some of the faded black hoses & pipes and then a small dissapointment which i didn't even consider until i got my old cam cover removed and tried a coil pack in the powdercoated one only to realise it was an aum cover

gutted! but being me i had come this far an ordinary plain aluminium wasn't going back on

so gave the old cover a good clean up and got some 'etch primer' and some paint to match as near as the powdercoated cover funnily enough i opted for volkswagen canyon red

also this matched the anodised fittings from pro-bolt

also found some old plastic loom covering and tidied up the coil pack wiring loom to make it look oem as possible and it looks much tidier and protects the loom alittle bit more, ripped out the old hard line for the dv and replaced that and the fpr line with some black piping and gave the upper timing cover a touch of paint too.....

looking at the top end whilst cam cover off i gave it a once over and for 130k its in good order

new look coil-pack wiring loom

finished

So now my engine bay is looking like this.....

And yes i am planning on painting the inlet manifold and throttle body will most likely be in the same red as i have an unused tin still

Also planning come the summer to get the wheels off bit of a re-furb and then i shall be painting these up colour of choice at the minute is anthracite?
comments welcome
