Shouldn't fail an MOT without an ARB as my a3 hasn't got one

If it had one when it was built, it should fail an MOT if it's missing. I think it was last year the wording in the regs was changed to make it more concrete.

It mustn't have crossed the testers mind then when I had mine done. All legitimate too. Must be a good tester

all i can say, having ran a car with standard roll bar, no roll bar and uprated roll bar.

you wownt think theres much difference between standard and no roll bar (Especially as your bushes were proberbly 10+ years old and in sh!te condition) but believe me there is.

round about i take 3rd exit every day i have done the following with the car right on the limit (note that its a 60mph zone so no speeding etc), standard roll bar 40mph, no roll bar 35mph, uprated roll bar best part of 50mph.and thats right on the limit, i tried to push the no roll bar faster but wa never able to get it around faster than 35mph, every time i got over that it started to understeer like crazy and i had to slow down to about 30mph.
