Front pad change
« on: 17 April 2014, 09:13 »
The car is getting a service and brake fluid change, on the MOT front pads were advised as being low.I got a quote from the dealer of £139 to fit new pads. Is that really the going rate?
I thought it would be cheaper especially as I assume, maybe wrongly, the wheels would be off for the fluid change anyway.

Is that a VW dealer? I bet they make decent money on MOT recommendations, some of them are £100 + per hour labour rate.

It's not a difficult job but you could try an Indy instead.

It wasn't a dealer who did the MOT. Looks like I'll have to cough up then cos I cant be arsed to do them myself, but I am tight

That's actually not a bad price i think at work we charge about £180 for pad replacement,When carrying out a brake fluid on VAG cars there is a brake bleed bottle we use so we keep the wheels on but i usually take the rear off as it can be tight and messy,A cheaper way if you wanted a dealer to do it is to buy the parts from EuroCar Parts and just pay VW for labour :)

If you didn't realise it is only £50 labour charge for a oil change the rest is parts premium,if you got the parts from Euro and pairs for labour with VW you could easily get a oil change service and stamped book for £70-£90 :)
