Carbonio CAI questions
« on: 15 April 2014, 17:37 »
Evening all,

I've had a Carbonio CAI intake fitted to my 59 plate GTI for 2 months now and have a couple of questions:

1) There is a high pitched whine / whistle when i put my foot down at higher revs - is this normal? It sounds different to an induction noise.

2) I've noticed a flat spot when accelerating gently from low throttle settings - does anyone else have this? It is worth noting that the car is fitted with a stage1 Bluefin.

Any help would be appreciated!

Matt

Search the forum pal this has been raised before with Carbonio and blue fin. I'm sure Ross devised a solution to it on some thread but cant remember what he said. It's in here somewhere....

I wonder why it's just with a bluefin though? Just a remap like all the others?

Looks like i need to get my bluefin map updated for the carbonio. Just out of interest, if i add a Milltek cat back, will i have to get the map updated again?

Bluefin sent me 4 different maps in total, none of them really worked over a period of time. The hesitation is to do with the vacuum in the Carbonio. Hard to explain, but ill try. Imagine you go half throttle for a second, the intake sucks all the air from inside the carbonio shell, if you then go full throttle is struggles to suck enough air in to make full power as the intake hole is only thin.

Where as an open intake has no vacuum and has plenty of air around it all the time, therfore never hesitates. Its not just Bluefin, a few people have had it with APR maps.

Two ways to fix it, put a bunch of rubber washers between the stubby carbonio pipe and the main shell. This will allow a better flow of air in and out of the shell and massively reduces the Vacuum effect.

Or secondly, which can be hard, learn not to be so ON /OFF the throttle as much as the vacuum will constantly make it hesitate as it struggle to suck enough air in. My opionion is try the washers, if no luck, swap top open intake.

Bluefin do not have a map to fix this issue, trust me....spent too long trying to get it right, I swapped to Revo Map and Revo Intake....no more hesitation, just brute power

Thanks for the replies. I spoke to Superchips on Thursday and although the guy was very helpful, he did not have a solution to the problem. He suggested contacting APR but i doubt they will be able to do anything. I might change back to the stock intake to confirm that it is definitely the Carbonio. I might also try the rubber washers that Ross suggested.
