NEW PURCHASE NOT GOING SO WELL!!
« on: 13 April 2014, 18:10 »
driving to work this morning coming off a roundabout gave the car a little squirt and the oil light came on with a big stop sign in the dash too.. pulled the car over switched off and checked the oil level on the dip stick which was fine.. restarted the car all the lights now not on.. drove about half a mile and lights back on again coasted into my works car park and rechecked the oil level again oil up to the max mark and restarted the car now the top end of the engine is rattling and the oil light staying on switched off and rang the Rac.. when thay came out he checked the oil level and started the car he heard the noise and switched off he did some checks and said his feeling is the top end is being starved of oil which could be a oil pick up problem or the oil pump has stopped working.. he checked the Ecu for fault codes and there are none.. he wrote me a report advising the above and advised not too drive it and to have recovered to the dealer i bought it from..
I then got a lift home from a work mate to pick up my Vxr and went back to work i started the Gti back up and presto no rattles and no oil lights.. very strange drove it round the car park seemed ok no noises no lights etc gave it a little squirt and oil light came on but no rattles
what is going on with this engine?
Dealer is going to have a very upset customer on the phone tomorrow i have only had this car 2 weeks and covered 252 miles and now this makes me wonder if they knew about it..
Sorry for the rant

Sounds like a blocked pickup pipe

Same thing happened to my mates A4 and now it wont start at all.........

DO NOT drive it!! Get it recovered to a garage before you do irreparable damage

Pickup pipe, happened on mine but I left mine off as soon as it appeared. Been fine ever since.

Spoke to Vag autos today and they said the oil pick up pipe strainer was blocked so now the engine is in bits whilst they check for any damage

The pick-up pipe blockage is more common than you think. The part itself is relatively inexpensive and I'd recommend that it's cleaned annually for piece of mind. I would also get them to clean the sump whilst they are working on the car, you probably find that this will be heavily polluted.

the car has been fixed and came back better then it was before..
oil strainer has been replaced all the guides checked and replaced cam belt done and cam follower too..  the car is a lot quieter and smoother and quicker too
