If you can stretch to a grand I bought this 1 for my folks Christmas and it's epic http://www.prcdirect.co.uk/details.php?nrd=1&product_url_id=UE55F6500&utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=feedmanager&gclid=COvxq7XO370CFZShtAodvzUAgw

John lewis also do it for 45 more which comes with a 5yr warranty
My old man uses xbmc via his pc for movies and the tv picks it up and you can search via your movies and tv... The smart features are really good and fast takes up to a 4tb external drive and looks good mate

55" is too big. Max size i want is 50" 47" being the lowest. Iv got loads of movies on a 1TB HD and i always have blurays on them so love watching in bluray so need 1 with a usb and has to be smart & 3D. Im going to stick with samsung unless pcworld or currys can convince me into buying a LG. Will be going to them on friday and see whats the crack

So get the model take it to john Lewis they will price match and give you a 5 yr warranty! I was an engineer for samsung bud and curries used to use there own repairers etc I wouldn't trust them and there staff no about as much as tvs as what's explained in the stats sheets provided!! Richer sounds online also price match and thee warranties are cheap and are also good! But for me nothing beats john lewis in terms of service and after care and it's all done via samsung for 5 yrs

or richersounds who will give you a 5 yr warranty if you join the vip club (simple email sign up).

Samsung, if you're watching films from an hard drive then odds are you'll want one that supports DTS codec, Samsung does this, pretty sure LG don't have the licence for it.

If you do go PC world ask about DTS support from USB devices, odds are the technical staff will cry or look blankly at you.

Warranty is for the device in case of breakdown. Highly unlikely you'd get accidental damage cover with it unless you pay for extra coverage.

I got a Samsung TV before Christmas and am very pleased with it even though it's not the top of the range. It's much better than my parents more expensive LG Smart TV, which has issues displaying anything with movement and the image just doesn't look right.
