Paint flaking on bolts on boot hinge.
« on: 13 April 2014, 09:56 »
Anyone else had this?

Just remembered that there was some paint coming off the bolts on the hinges on the boot lid when I picked the car up - didn't notice it at pickup but once spotted, didn't have time to take it back to the dealer (had to get it on a boat to Cyprus the next day). Can't photo it yet as the car is still on the boat though.

Ordered a touch-up pen with the right paint code and (as it's only the bolts) I'm just going to get the loose paint off and touch them up.

Yup! Had it on my GTI, it was one of the things that was fixed really well before i rejected it! both of the courtesy cars i had were the same, the dealership said it wasn't them that had adjusted it so must've been before it left the factory.

Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

Can't you let the local Cyprus dealer sort it out? The first 2 years of the 3 year warranty we get on UK cars is a pan-European warranty, it is only the 3rd year that is a "dealership" warranty for UK dealerships only.

My dad once got a MK4 130TDI GT with tiptronic box from a car importer (Carshock?) because you couldn't get that engine with the tiptronic box in a hatchback officially in the UK. He only got 2 years warranty for it because it was a Maltese sourced car, no dealership warranty. I'd assume you'd be in a similar situation for warranty with a UK car in Cyprus, for the time it is in Cyprus.

I suspect someone has adjusted your boot either in the last stages of QC checks at Wolfsburg, or at dealership PDI and not been bothered to tidy the paint up afterwards.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Ta guys - to be honest, for what it is, I'll just touch it up rather than risk some Cypriot body shop getting their hands on it.

Anything major (like the suspension noises that people have had) I'd be straight down the dealers!!

I think I might have found the reason (or at least a connection) as to why the bootlid bolts were flaking...

There is a very slight mark on the rear bumper along where the bottom of the tailgate sits where it looks like the bootlid might have touched the bumper. Doesn't touch now and the marks came out with a bit of t-cut.
