Replacement wings?
« on: 13 April 2014, 00:52 »
Normally I would just call VW up but I'm going abroad on Monday early so I'm not really in a position to do so for a few weeks....

Basically I forgot to put the car in reverse when stripping the interior and taking my handbrake off... Sigh. Long story short I now need a new drivers wing (and the passenger side also needs doing due to rust near the sills). My stepdad is saying get a pattern part but all I have heard is bad stories about them when trying to fit them on.

How much am I looking for the VW parts? And can they supply them painted?

Cheers all!

VW Heritage don't do many Mk3 parts (no body panels). My Mk3 panels are high quality and I will know in a couple of weeks about fitment etc

I am also a dealer with VWHeritage as the Mk2 and 3 share a few parts only available through them (and for the classic VW parts where the dealer shake there heads when enquiring!).

I set oemandmore as no company seems to like the Mk3 and I have contacts worldwide now and could possibly build a new Mk3 from scratch with what's available (I would only need the bare shell I recon?). I would like a fancy website but it's early day's and the cost is way too much

Does the job mate and like you say fills a hole where there is clearly demand! Plus your prices are more than competitive, all it needs now is time

I would stay away from pattern one's as the one's i have seen are very thin and weak.

I got 2 good one's from breakers for £30,genuine and original,no rust. Not off a GTi though, they came off a CL with no wing aerial. If you do the leg work you may find some in matching colour but bear in mind that does'nt mean that they will be an exact match even if they come off a car made in the same year.

Some colours fade more than others so i guess it all depends on what colour you are looking for.

Pattern parts are renowned for bad fitting and poor quality. You can get good one's at a higher price but as there are plenty of good used one's still around my personal choice would be used one's which i could renovate if need be.You don't often get better than OEM stuff.

Bought mine of a VW dealer late summer last year. Wasn't even close to be cheap. They do know how to charge ( £186 each)
