Idling problem?
« on: 03 September 2005, 18:29 »
My cab at idle is behaving a bit weird.

seems temprementally the idle speed will be 1k, 900, or even 500.

I increased the fueling a few days ago as it was idling about 600.

anyone got an idea to whats up or could be causing the problem? or does it just need a good tune?

rich

Have you tried adjusting the idle screw ? Mine was bumpy between about 600 - 1000 and when I got it serviced I asked them to have a look at it and they adjusted the idle screw I think he said.  :undecided:
......now officially dubless.

I had this poblem for 3 years... until recently. I replaced the idle screw £10 because the rubber washer which is sunk into the screw was worn. That meant that the screw wouldn't grip properly and would unwind causing the revs to drop.

Also check your timing and mixtures and as a final check your warm up regulator. This caused me problems on tick over when cold. Also had it serviced too.

Hope that helps a little.

I will try tomorrow to find out where my garage got the part from. Leave it with me.

Rich,
I have spoken to Fred at Chorley Auto Volk 01257 266574 and he says that he got my idle screw from VW main agents. If you can't get the part, ring him with your engine and VIN number and he will look the part number up for your specific model.

I did tell him that he may get loads of calls from here and vwgolfmk1.org.uk members but he didn't relly seem to mind!!

Hope that helps, Dan
