Removing an Immobiliser... is it safe?
« on: 11 April 2014, 23:05 »
Hi guys!

I got this golf last year, and have been slowly getting it done up ready to be back on the road.

I found a completely butchered part of an immobiliser, it is wired into the ignition, however none of those wires are connected to anything.

I have 5 wires that are actually connected to anything, and I'm not sure what to as they are pretty hard to trace. It is clear that the immobiliser does work, because if you just unplug it, the car won't run!

Is it as simple as removing these 5 wires from wherever they are connected, or will the ECU require some altering?

Cheers!

Am I right in saying its an aftermarket kit and not the factory install? If it is then carefully remove it whilst rejoining any factory loom sections that have been spliced as you go.
Ive had to do the same on several cars ive owned over the years and it shouldn't have any ill effects on the ECU.

Yeah i think its an aftermarket one, because i can't find any info on what the original was, and this is a centurion one, where I can't find any information on it as well

Cheers for the help!
