« on: 09 April 2014, 14:18 »
Sorry if this has been done before..
just tried to change my insurance in prep for new car..the insurer gave 2 choices for the GTI PP?

They said "GTI performance Launch" & "GTI performance TSI.."

I have a GTI PP with dsg 5dr...any one know what the "Launch" is?

Early demo's didn't have the forward facing radar and the other safety features associated with it. If you've got the radar you've got a "GTI Performance TSI".

Enjoy it when it arrives!!

Gnasher - this is key info - thanks for sharing! I think I asked for Launch when I spoke to my insurance company as I thought it meant launch control! I only had a month left on the old policy so it won't have hurt me too much, but I must remember to correct them when I renew for the year next week as I've heard the radar makes quite a big difference...

Hi
Thanks for the reply ..that explains Lot. The insurance comp dont even know what Launch means. Now makes sense.
The front Assist makes it 5 groups lower than the old GTI so will make a difference.

cheers

I just tried to amend my renewal quote and it made no difference , just checking with them to see if I can persuade them otherwise...

Seems to make a difference of £7 on Direct Line where there are also 2 indistinguishable models:

GOLF 2.0T(13 ON)5D/A GTI PERFOR 1984cc 5DR
and
GOLF 2.0T(13 ON)5D/A GTI PER LA 1984cc 5DR

The latter is £7 more than the former... (for me)

Well apparently (with Aviva) there is no difference between the one marked Launch and the one without, but with a bit of haggling she has found some "loyalty discount" so I've got £60 off the renewal quote anyway, so a decent result in the end...

The Mk VI Golf GTI's were all group 55/56 (on a scale of 1-70), and the Mk VII GTI's are all 50/51.

When I first got a quote it was mistakenly put in as a MK VI, and it was much more expensive.

Pleasantly suprised that my insurance for the GTI is the same cost as my previous Audi A3 (1.6 TDI) - Don't understand why (even though I work in insurance), but quite happy with my annual cost - Age & Postcode have their benefits!
Tornado Red Golf GTI 5 Door (220PS) - Discover Nav, Winter Pack, Mudflaps & Service Plan (Built BW11 & collected 5th April 2014)

All down to the forward facing radar and anti-collision technology (front assist)
