3 door - door pillar wind noise
« on: 08 April 2014, 14:45 »
Hi, the car sounds like the driver's door is open when being driven at 30mph. The passenger door doesn't seem too bad.  The driver's door doesn't look flush when closed, almost like the Hi gloss window frame pillar is siting proud of the car but it has no visible damage.

Is this likely to be a well known problem on the 3 door (I've read some posts) and if so, what's the easiest resolution (adjusting the door alignment or replacing door seals)?

Car bought from main dealer 2 weeks ago and first used 2 days ago when the issue was spotted.  Car due back to the dealer for resolution but hoping to point them in the right direction if they're not familiar with the issue.

Thanks.

I had the same problem on my 3 doors, got dealers to fit new seals, but it never fully cures it. If its really windy or raining heavy i can hear it. its where the lock is.

I just turn up the music or downshift like a boss....

As posted elsewhere via my groaning/whining first gear issue:

The car was today inspected by the Master Tech at the main dealer and straight away he observed that the driver's door alignment is out, visible by the proud sitting Hi gloss door pillar and via the contour line on the driver's door that has dropped below the contour line of the front and rear wings.  He seems to think it's a straightforward fix to resolve so they have the car now to sort a few issues and touch wood...

My five door driver's door is slightly unaligned too. I noticed this when i bought the car but when i checked out the other mk6 golf's at the vw dealers, they were all slightly unaligned too so i thought it was normal

Got the car back yesterday.  The alignment is now correct and - the acid test - Mrs pld (it's her car) says she is satisfied the wind noise is resolved.  Garage say any more problems just take the car back.  Happy days!

Satisfied that us until she took it on the motorway at speeds over 50mph  :embarrassed:

Car has spent some time back at the dealership and they said the driver's door alignment had room for/ needed further adjustment.

Whilst en route home (I'm not commenting as to whether or not the wind noise has gone, I'll let the vehicle owner decide upon that!) ... The car did seem noisy on the motorway as though the boot was open/ the noise seemed to be from the rear boot area... Have they done such a good job with the driver's door wind noise that it now exposes other "drafts" !! ... Again, I'm waiting to see what someone else has to say, if anything.

Ok but... If they don't all do it, there must be a reason and therefore a fix? ... Surely
