How to remove rear emblem
« on: 08 April 2014, 13:35 »
Does anyone know how to remove the rear emblem? I would like to paint the insert white and paint the chrome black. I've done some photoshopping to get an idea for how it looks, i also tinted the rear lights and windows as well as enlarging the exhausts by 15%.

Standard:

My understanding is that unlike previous models where you could just prise it off, you need to remove the trim from inside the rear hatch and unbolt the emblem itself so that you stand a chance of removing the VW part without damaging the plastic lugs that hold it on.

I'm going to attempt this myself on Bank Holiday Weekend as I'm planning to plasti dip the rear in black leaving the gloss part behind it. Just like I've done on the front

I'll try and post pictures/do a write up.

Sounds good Monsta. Looking forward to hearing how it goes! Make sure you post some pictures up along the way

I dropped in at my local VW dealer today to ask how much the parts were. They are only around £20 so if you would rather replace them it's not too expensive. I think i am going to go down that option to be honest.

Have you tried plasti-dip before?  It's like a rubber paint that you spray on and can peel off when you want to return to normal.  Also really easy to have multiple goes at getting it right because of the peel off nature!

£10.00 or so per can, great stuff.

You can also get a pre-painted gloss panel from here:

I've used it on other stuff but i wanted to keep the gloss theme going on the badge etc. I saw that you used it on your front badge an it does look good. Really convenient that it is removable too!

Cheers for the link, seems to be plenty of stuff on there.
