Prospective owner questions
« on: 07 April 2014, 14:26 »
Hi,

I'm thinking of ordering a GTI PP very soon and have a couple of questions please...

I read somewhere that VW have a new media system coming out soon that allows "apps" to be installed. Is this confirmed,a dn does anyone know if this will be soon?

The toughest choice as far as options goes is the colour. My favourites are Reflex Silver or Red. I've hardly seen any photos of Reflex Silver, so would be very grateful if someone could post some please...

Other options include Keyless, Winter Pack, Rear camera and Nav Pro. Not bothered about the active suspension as it will probably stay in one setting. Am looking at ordering through DtD because I can't find a dealer to match, or even get close!

Thanks in advance.

Hi welcome.
Not heard about the apps thing but a dealer may or may not know some more, if the internet cant give you more info.
yeah resale silver is not that popular these days hence why you cant find a pic any place. I have had it on 2x GTI mk 5 &mk6 but have gone for Carbon steel grey CSG. White is by far the most popluar but if you are sold on silver have a look at Tungsten silver.. you may like that..
GTI PP,CSG, dsg, DCC, keyless, park assist 19"Santiagos.
Climate windscreen, Nav.

Golf R on order. 5dr dsg, 19", keyless.
Passat Estate Biturbo Black, on order.

Thanks mikeok, I've seen Tungsten Silver and it's not for me thanks. My current car (Bora) is Reflex Silver and it always looks clean

Otherwise, I'm happy to spec red since it's free  and a classic GTI colour.

Will check out carwow, but would be surprised if they can match DtD...

I also tried CarWow and they didn't quite get near the price of DtD... Although I took the DtD price to my local dealer and they did match it!

I went for Tornado Red and I'm delighted with my choice. Reflex is nice but it wouldn't be one I would choose on a GTI. I would have it on a GTD though!

As far as options go, i've got Keyless, Reversing Camera and just the standard Discover Nav out of the ones you have chosen (I've also got Adaptive Chassis & Winter Pack). Keyless is brilliant, as is the camera. The larger PRO screen looks great but I couldn't justify the extra £1000 over the standard size.
MK7 GTI 3-Door DSG, Tornado Red, Discover Nav, Winter Pack, ACC, Keyless Go, Reversing Camera, Service Pack... Ordered 28th Oct... Collected 1st March!

Thanks for the info. I also want the Winter Pack, but forgot to list it in my original post (will try to edit it). I'll probably only use it one day a year, but still fancy having it!

Heres a few pics of Gina's car in reflex silver. It looks great and would be my choice out of red or silver

The heated seats are wonderful, I use them all the time and with the cloth seats they heat up incredibly quickly!

Hi DaftPunk,

You might be thinking of MirrorLink, this thread has some info about it - late this year perhaps:
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=266218.msg2446215#msg2446215

Nice options - I only added Keyless after hearing people rave about it on here, and thinking I would definitely regret it if keeping the car my planned duration - but can now see how great it will be. Winter Pack - again, I think we live in a country that increasingly deserves this (presuming you are also UK!) Reverse camera - seems a no brainer for the money if you have a bit extra to spare (again if it avoids me ever hearing a crunch on a low post etc... ). I then kept the standard screen for the same reason as Jbirchy, and instead added the DCC - which by the way is 'always active' even if kept in one mode it will adjust to the road.

However the jury is out on DCC, some love it some don't feel much difference. The roads are awful around me so going to give it a go. I also figure if I never sit in a GTI/GTD with the nav pro I should be happy enough with the standard nav, but the Pro does look very nice indeed ;)

DtD seem good for those who have used them - I used CarWow to find a local dealer offering a good discount and then used the DtD price to barter with them further, got them to just over 11% which was close enough to the 12% on DtD to make it seem worthwhile to stay local. Not to name names but I visited 3 dealers in person - 1 totally ignored me (I literally stood in the middle of their showroom making eye contact for a few minutes), another never called me back, and another were very good but could only offer 5% discount.
