  Buy a VR6 Depends if you want to be paying through your nose in the future for the vr6 petrol costs..

Group 16 ins for the 16v 150 bhp and ts 134mph

Group 14 ins for the 8v   115bhp and ts 124 mph mine does more at a push..

just the 16v has more to offer higher up after 70mph and 4k rpm so if you wanna lose your licence and pay the extra in fuel and insurance..16v is the way to go..

I have an 8v not being biased at all like most people round here ....

so really for a run around its not gonna be much difference between 16v and 8v?
i dont use motorways so im not gonna be getting higher than 60mph.  dont wanna lose lience lol

If you're not fussed about going fast, then you'll get a very tidy low miler 8v for the same price as a tatty high miler 16v, petrol and insurance costs on top of that... no contest really. Seems like an 8v would suit you down to the ground.

Hell fire ! We're now recommending mk3 8vs to people on the site ! What's the world coming to !  We'll be having groups hugs and everything next.

Seriously, by the sound of it I'd have to agree with topher's advice on this if you really are after a mk3.
......now officially dubless.

I dnt mean to offend anyone by this statement but after i killed my 16valve mark 2 I got put on my dads insurance for his 8 valve mark 3 gti, and found it very disapointing.

It was a good car to use as transport from a-b etc, in quite good nick but i dnt think i would ever consider an 8valve, think i have been spoilt after driving 16 valves.

Both good cars, but if you're not going to use the performance available at 5000 revs plus of the 16v then the 8v is a better town car.
