42 mpg against 36 on the drive to the track, I'll trade 6 mpg for soundtrack any day (recent convert what can I say)

If by sound track you mean sound actuator, then GTI/GTD sound the same in the car, externally there are obvious differences but GTI sounds like a typical 4cyl 2.0 petrol. The R32 or old 5cyl Focus ST are what I'd call soundtrack!

Someone had to kick this wasp nest again.

Happy with my 45mpg 240ps DTUK GTD. Sounds great from the drivers seat.

He means the drive to the track in the video, i've driven a GTD and owned a GTI (briefly! ) they don't sound the same inside! The diesel doesn't sound bad at all but not the same.

I actually meant the whopping great exhaust sticking out my rear, but I'm not here to start a derv vs petrol argument, I've been on both sides now and each has it merits, one of the being a trade off between fuel economy and power, I'm just surprised to see the gap is smaller than I thought

Which in other news actually sounds louder with the DTUK box off for some reason, don't know how that works tbh but never mind

GTD = Company car with thrills. GTI = Private owner with more thrills.

I love my GTD, and when I get my DTUK box fitted, I will have my GTI speed! Everybody wins!

Plenty of people who aren't company car drivers have bought gtd's so it's not just an exclusive company car.

2014 Golf 7 GTD vs. Golf 7 2.0 TDI - 0-224 km/h a…: http://youtu.be/z-m2BqVWXKg

This is probably a more interesting video for the GTD owners although manual vs DSG is never fair and its not exactly test conditions.

Again just illustrates how pointless these videos are.

GTD could have been on a bed of skittles for all we know.

Even though it looks almost the same, with the GTD being a few kph ahead all the way to 60mph it's probably 10 metres ahead by then, and it's goodbye from there!

But yeh, I still think it's far from a good way to do comparisons - by the same method they showed the GTI beating a M135i to 60.

Love these threads! Everyone gets all defensive about their cars!

Surely the only reason to buy a gtd over a gti is mpg?

I reckon a gtd with a box fitted would be a great little package. Almost as good as my gti with my DTUK box fitted........ :-)
