GOLF MK6 CAI
« on: 03 April 2014, 13:05 »
Hi,
I was just wondering what are peoples opinions on the best CAI set up for out Golf's?

Ive read up on the carbonio (before and after gains etc) and it seems to come out on top.
Ive heard VWR are good too. Has anyone got an aftermarket CAI fitted and had proven gains or at least helped the car to breath more?

Some say the carbonio caused hesitation?

When you look at the stock set up compared to the Audi S3/Golf R engine the stock intake looks really well designed.

Now - MK7.5 R in Pure White with DCC.
Gone - 2014 Mk7 GTI DSG Pure White - Discover Nav - Park Assist - Winter Pack.

Im sure RocketRoss will be along shortly to answer to give his opinion as he's had plenty of intakes.

TBH i'm quite liking the look of this currently - http://www.awesomegti.com/car/vw/golfmk6/forge-induction-kit-for-mk6-golf-2-litre-gti

Pretty sure anything is better than standard and the Carbonio is many monies for stage1 and 2 parts..

Currently Standard !!

Looks good, however it doesn't seem to channel the air in as directly as the carbonio if you know what I mean. The carbonio is attached directly to the intake where as this is more of an open design.

Yeah thats true.. But the really good intakes for the tfsi motor were just an open cone like the one in the link and it also has a heatshield. The carbonio makes good power from what ive read soo possibly best going with that to be honest !

Currently Standard !!

Have you considered carbonspeed?

I am a dealer for them and haven't heard any bad news about there performance (they use a pipercross filter) and are £260 from myself

I finally made it to this post. As many you you know i have tried nearly every intake for the TSI, some good, some not so good.

Im going to start at the top / my favorite. For me the Pipercross / REVO intake is by far the best, it wins by a country mile.

The reason i rate it so highly is because its outstanding in every category. The noise is fantastic, it roars on WOT and it dumps real nice when letting off / changing gears. If you like quite intakes this NOT for you.

It has also given me the best gains, when on the rolling road, it showed a massive gain of 12 BHP at approx 5500-6000rpm @ stage 1 Revo. Most intake claim to give you 10+bhp, very few do.

Also the build quality is great and very sturdy, also comes with a stage 2 pipe which gets rid of that horrible ribbed  45 degree bend in your 3rd picture. smoother airflow. Would deffo give it a 10/10

My second choice overall would be the Carbonio. It looks nice, but i did have an issue with hesitation if you let off and then straight back on the throttle. I never got to the bottom of it, it could have been the Bluefin map or it could of been lack of air in the Carbonio box. It just waited a second before really going

People have said that you should put rubber washer between the Carbonio box and Carbonio pipe so its not a total vacuum in the Carbonio and allows it to dump un-used air whilst bringing more in. (hard to explain)

Best genuine gains ive seen from a stage 1 runnig Carbonio is around 8-9 BHP. One problem is the massive hole it leaves where the old OEM box was, looks a bit silly, but hey ho.

Neuspeed is good all-rounder, good build, good sound, average gains.

The VWR on is great build quality, but is way too quite.

The EVOMS make a very high pitch turbo noise - stay away from that one.

Havent tried the Forge one - too dam expensive - but sure it will be good.

If you need anymore info on them, give me a shout or ask in this thread

Open intake always sound best and always pull best (as long as it a quality one)
