I know I have a small a tiny nail, like a panel pin in my tyre. Not notincing a massive loss of air, I top it up every month. My questions, how small can they can do a repair on a tyre?

Worth taking it in or not?

They drill it out bigger then plug it basically so yes it will be fine.

As above however it may not be fine, the further you drive with a nail in tyre the worse it will be, as its such a small nail i think that you may be ok with this and it will only cost you a few quid to get repaired, however in future always take a tyre to get repaired as soon as possible, i know people who have had tyres that cost the best part of £200 had to be replaced no long after first fitting because they have driven with a nail in for too long and its damaged the surrounding area of the tyre.
