It might be stupidity or carelessness but at sometime we have all done stupid things my mate got out of his car transporter and forgot to put the handbrake on luckily he jumped back in it and stopped it just in time I think they should be fitted with a chime or buzzer so if your out of the car ignition of handbrake not engaged it warns you

Oooooww.  Feel for you. Hoping this video makes us all think twice when getting out of the drivers seat. However, mine just will not move unless the drivers seat belt is on…. it's a pain when you just want to move it on the drive. Mind you, our drive has a very steep long drop down to a river at the bottom running along side it, so I'm always VERY cautious!!!!  :nerd:

You can dis-engage the handbrake manually by pressing the button, whether the seatbelt is on or off.

One minor correction - you need to have your foot on the footbrake or the handbrake won't release.

I have found that it's easy to get a bit too used to autohold working for you. I did the same thing in a petrol station in France - luckily it was basically flat and it hardly moved. It is a real problem though, the autohold (which is great when it's on) trains you in to a habit that is dangerous in some situations.

I have found it's also risky combined with stop/start. You pull up, auto hold comes on, you take the car out of gear, take foot off clutch and the engine stops. Except insome situations (where you're not sure if the queue is about to move again, etc) I have found that the routine can get messed up and I've taken my foot off the clutch while it's still in gear.

I've started building the habit to always have my foot on the footbrake when I go in to neutral to avoid the embarrassing (and potentially expensive) lurch forward.

I find when I disengage it manually it stops working in auto mode until you engage it manually again.  I just put my seatbelt on even if I just need to move the car slightly.  Feel alot safer after watching that!

So OP has had two "mishaps" which have been "captured on camera" and turned into YouTube videos, along with some advertising for his website. Hmmm....

Here's a question if you were in panic mode, jumped in without putting the keys in the ignition would the handbrake engage? if you pressed the button. Also if you leave a child in the car with the handbrake engaged is it easy for them to press the button and disable the handbrake without the ignition being on? (Just wondering), its probably a lot easier for a child to press a button that pull up button in for the handbrake.
