Why advertise your stupidity?  I think someone should take the car away from you.
Hope this will save Just one GTI from same fate.

Would you have been quite so keen to share your experience if it had happened a second later and hit the pedestrian.  I doubt it.

Technology is all well and good but not a substitute for the basic rules of driving.

Just a thought... Why didn't the front assist stop it from hitting the bush?

Now I am confused . Surely if the ignition is off then the handbrake would be on?

no, if you turn off the handbrake manually cos youre not wearing your seatbelt, then when you stop and turn off the car the handbrake is still off, caught me out a few times when repositioning on my drive.

It is possible for the handbrake to be off with the ignition off. The handbrake only auto-engages if you're using Auto-hold and you were wearing your seatbelt, etc. It's definitely possible to leave the car with the handbrake off.

Also, this is an Irish car and the front assist is a cost option, not that it'd have helped in this case I reckon!

Thanks for the info. Good to know about this so others can avoid a similar fate

x2 someone did this and almost killed my mother in law, he jumped out of his Merc at a petrol station and it rold down a hill and crushed my 67 year old mother in law against a wall.
P.S The Benny Hill music would be more apt
