Poor reception, and interference can be linked to the earth strap fitted to the N/S bonnet hinge being broken... worth a check
Thom
Thom, where is it exactly and is it easy to replace if broken?
Open the bonnet, go to the N/S bonnet hinge... the hinge should have an earth strap where it bolts to the bonnet at one end, and bolted to the body at the other. The strap should be about 10 inches long, and have a black heat shrink cover over the braided part... Usually one end breaks away with old age, but can easily be fixed by opening up the terminal with a small flat blade screwdriver, and re crimping the braided copper wire. 10min job to mend, or 2 min job to replace
The strap is there to earth the bonnet to the body properly, this cuts down immensely on spurious interference signals emitted from the cars ignition system and interfering with the radio, especially if the car has a wing mounted aerial! Bee stings can still suffer, but to a lesser extent
