Which hoses haha, I'm still a complete rookie at Mk4 golfs, so i have no idea which hoses do what / where everything is

At the moment your DV is sat horizontally, you need to take it out of both pipes and turn it vertically with the blue silicone pipe connecting at the top

The blue silicone pipe is connected at the top of the DV? it just isnt mounted properly, so it would appear that it is attached to its side. i'm still unsure what you mean about the big hose
Cheers, Mo

If you cannot figure this out then I'd suggest not ever working on a car.

There are three hoses going to the dv, one small vac hose which goes to the top, one larger one that goes into the bottom of the valve and one larger one that goes into the side.

You need to swap over the two larger hoses so the one that is currently going to the side goes into the bottom of the valve and vice versa

I think this is where i am getting mixed up... The guy that had the car before me only had 2 pipes going into it, no third pipe.

No 3rd pipe? i'm assuming this to be the vaccum pipe that goes from the dv valve top to the inlet manifold if so this won't help being missing as you will be loosing boost with it not connected i fail to understand why and how the previous owner managed to bodge up fitting a dv valve  also have you sorted out your n75 wiring/plug?

Here you can see mine:

The bottom of the valve goes into the TIP and you can see the other two hoses

The DV is now properly installed, the guy decided to plug the other hole that the DV sits in, just for the louder 'pssh', i've noticed that it has improved the throttle response with it, so hopefully that was the only problem. Thanks for the help haha, It was a lot easier than i anticipated.

Ha I can see the blank now, so he was using  a recirc valve as an atmospheric valve. 10/10 for effort

Glad you have seen the errors of his ways

I didn't even spot that until I read your post! Well spotted, I thought it was all plumbed in, guess you can't really take anything for granted when it comes to buying used cars it's on the border of comical what some people do!
