bbs rc rebuild advise
« on: 28 March 2014, 21:38 »
Just picked up some bbs rc041/042 and I want to polish up centres and I have some chrome bolts from my old schmidt wheels that I thought I would use.
Just removed some bolts from one of the wheels and found out that the bbs bolts are splined and 9/8mm with a 7mm thread.

The bolts I want to replace them with are just m7 threads. They was good enough for the schmidts but they had 30 bolts and these have 20. And the bolt holes are 9mm and the bolts are 7mm. So I am concerned.

Are these bolts I have good enough? Or just a stupid idea.
The original bolts are painted and couple on each wheel have snapped.

My schmidt bolts have never seen the road

a lot of people rebuild rc's with m8 stainless button headed allen bolts. they go up to m8 so they are a snug fit in the bolt hole again.

to be honest rc's are a tight fit with the rim and the centre so i can't see anything moving about.

i think if i were to try it i would build the wheels initially with the correct bolts, then replace them one at a time.  you will then know that the original bolts have centred the wheel correctly

Cheers for that. Since making this thread ive made a deal on some bbs rc style 5's so same splined bolts. Im going to use them as they are polished and put them in the bbs rc 041's and buy new bolts for the 5's... I think

Too many wheels now.
