Well just got the email from the dealers today that the car is with them - I'm booked on a flight Monday to pick it up Tuesday and drive it to the port to get it on a boat out to Cyprus.

Then just got to wait 3 weeks for it to get here!!

So if anyone sees me between Eastbourne and Southampton give me a wave!!!!!!

Great stuff!  Bet you can't wait, this probably has to be the most exciting journey to car collection experienced on the forum!

If you're passing by Brighton which I suspect you will, I'll keep my eye open

Fantastic country Cyprus is.......off there again this summer for 3 weeks (Pernera)

Would have been good for you to have written a blog or thread on your experience of shipping your car to Cyprus, costs, procedure, route etc, etc as this is always a much debated topic over on the many on-line, ex-pat Cyprus forums. I was going to undertake the journey in my Q7 but was informed that the ferries from Italy to Limassol were cargo only and were unreliable, so I didn't bother in the end.

Just looking at your GTi spec...... Leather seats in 40+*C heat for 9 months of the year :whistle:.....very brave man
GTD 5 Door, DSG - Pearl Black, Dynaudio, 19" Santiago's and a few accessories.......Collection 20th May 2014....(My Birthday!)

GTi PP 5dr DSG - Tornado Red, Santiago's and 90% Tints....Collection due 1st March 2017......"One of the last Mk7's" - "Cancelled"

I did think about driving it across as some sort of European road trip (which would have run it in nicely) but apparently you can't get a ferry from the mainland to southern Cyprus anymore. It's dead easy though, straight on the ship at Southampton and off again at Limassol. Still in the mob so it's coming across as indulgence cargo.

And the seats - I'll definitely be using the sunshade in the windscreen and might get some tints on the front side windows (which I know are illegal in the UK (and probably Cyprus too) but you see loads of cars with them done over here.

Definitely passing Brighton - I might do the road right on the coast rather than the A27 for some of it for variety!

Right then - car collected with no issues. Really chuffed with it. Didn't spot another GTI or GTD in my travels

Can't post photos as I'm on the crappy Travelodge internet and can't get them off my camera, but I will in the new arrivals section later (although it's yet another Pure White one!)

Positives...

Did about 150 miles in the time I've had it, got used to the electronic parking brake and it's great to have some 'quick' steering again (my Astra VXR was 2.5 turns lock to lock but the car I've borrowed is 3.5 - lots of wheel twirling!)
Looks even better in the flesh than in photos and feels very well built. Dynaudio sounds great, had it cranked up and the mirror was vibrating and still sounded crystal clear (and this is coming from ~£1000 worth of ICE in my Astra).
Lights all look cool (I popped out and found a window on a retail park for a play with them lol) and the interior lighting was also spot on.
Bluetooth connected easily.
Even though I'm running it in it seems very 'eager' on part throttle at around 3-4000rpm. I thought it might feel a little flat after my (tuned) Astra but all smiles so far - if I struggle it'll be tuning box/remap time!
The adjustable boot floor is a good idea - I'll have to see which setting the dog likes it on though (after the dog guard and bumper protection go in/on).
No sounds coming from the front suspension (or rear for that matter).

All in all really chuffed with it, but...

Negative...

Even though I've taken delivery yesterday and ordered in early october, my car must have been built very quickly (or be old stock that just happened to match my spec exactly) as it's got an MDI connector, not a USB which is a bit of a pain as I don't have an iPhone (or anything made by apple). That said, I would have only used it to plug my phone in and then shut the cover to the compartment to charge my phone up, but a little niggle nonetheless.

Apart from that the biggest negative was dropping it off to get shipped over to Cyprus - I'll not see it until at least the 21st now and when I do it'll probably be covered in dirt from the voyage!!

I was originally looking at ether the Golf GTI or a new Astra VXR but I feel I've made the right choice (thankfully)

Edit - I don't think it's been standing long at the port, there isn't a hint of corrosion on the brake disc centres (which some have commented on)

Edit 2 - It's on Continentals too, not Bridgestones - they might be a bit dated but they're still pretty good!

I thought you only got (a now working) USB with adv phone prep and without it you still got MDI?

Congrats on the new car, can tell you're excited by the pace of your post!

Regarding the MDI cable, you can pick up a USB to MDI converter for £5 on ebay - no biggy
