Weitec vs H&R 50mm cup kits
« on: 23 March 2014, 18:53 »
Evening all im looking at ditching my joms (again) in favour of 1 of the above, now I know weitec is now ST Suspension or whatever but presumably still the same inside ! There both similar prices both drop 50mm well the h&rs are 55/40 but im going to see if awesome can swap that for 50 all round !

Ive recently measured my drop and im currently sitting at 320 mm CENTRE OF WHEEL to arch which gives me a 50mm drop from stand Gti height of 370. I presume the quoted drop on the springs is from 1.6 ect height which is ??? (I dont actually know) but either way springs and shocks will be more suited and hopefully return the comfort that I really do miss.

Couple of questions
1. If the offered drop of the springs is from poverty spec mk4s what is the height of them compared to GTIs?
2. If they are abit high can I fit either polo mounts or the the cup that drops the front a further 10/15mm and remover the rubber mount that sits on the rear spring for a further 10/15mm back there ? Will this affect the comfort as the suspension trave wont actually change will it ?
3. Which of the 2 is more composed and comfortable ? And can handle poor uneven roads with out chucking you around the car like joms do !

Ive owned weitec coils so if there spring and shock kit is anything like that they are staying well clear of my car. Sorry for the essay ive read alot about all this lately and cant find a definitive answer theres an intensive thread about weitecs but not alot about h&r.

Thankyou
Adrian

What if I told you there was another solution...you can have the ride comfort of a standard car, the cornering ability of a very good aftermarket setup and the car will look amazing

Ive been in a car with air and tbh it felt no different to my old weitecs .... plus the missus will be driving my car eventually and I just cant trust air enough with her driving

It depends on the setup, but mine is in a different league to any coilovers that I've felt

This was xl fronts I believe was raised quite high though maybe that was the problem ? Either way I dont have the ££££ to buy air let alone then have to fiddle with my air set up. Im hoping I can get some reasonable info about the 2 above so I can make a decision on them

Yeah, I'm running Slam Series XL front struts. As with all air setups, the higher you drive them the harsher the ride
