Mine broke, wasnt put back together properly so that was decision made for me

Sometimes i miss it, especially the seats and I do have thoughts of tracking it down but only so I can fix it properly and give it a decent send off

Weirdly I'm going through the same patch with the Audi but I've found a few things I want to do so that's given me a bit more enthusiasm. That and its only done 75k so plenty of life left in it yet

Save your money, I'm considering engine swap out for a BAM and beach buggy k400, the only reason I could afford this now is that I would be living literally 10mins walk from work and I'll save 200 a month in fuel alone nevermind the other costs associated with it! As scarr says, means not musts. I would love to plough the 3000 into my golf to get it running the way I want but I'd need to ensure the roof is over my head first. The way I'm looking at it is this:

The car will die on the road or die of old age

You will always be able to save up for a car mate. I saved for the last 5 years for the next Rseries to come out with vw but I've now spent the 25k on a house buy instead.

Worth it? Most definetly! If you want something then figure out the means of getting it.

I now want to holiday in Mauritius, I can't get there on the wage I'm on, so now I'm studying for AutoCAD and the CII hoping one of those two fields will get me there as well as making plans to rent out one of the rooms I will have on the bottom floor of my house as its literally a self contained flat.

You're doing we'll buddy, keep at it and just think of this, you have a frikkin golf, the car you gaped at the age of 17 wishing you could afford one, and not only that you have built a history with it and it looks awesome

All you have to do now is prioritise buddy

Hey,

The past couple of weeks I have felt like going to the bank and just getting a loan and buying a newer car, I don't know why i feel like im losing passion for my car lately and its pissing me off. lol

Now with me moving out on friday with the misses getting a new car is NOT a good thing to do and further more there is nothing wrong with my car apart from my stuipd 17705 error back but i think i know what that is now and in the process of sorting it.

I got a funny feeling its cuz all my mates have newer cars than me which are alot faster.

I love my little golf and want to get it finished, what do you guys do to snap yourselfs out of feeling like this?

Best thing you can do is save up your money. If the car can get you from a to b then thats all you need for now ,don't waste money on a car that you will never get your money back. I want more power and will buy the right second hand car one day, iv saved up 10,000 pound but still find my golf good at going to the bank or shop for beers for now.

Much agree, don't finance or take a loan out just for the car, I've know individuals who are still paying their monthly repayments years after they've had the car written off. Must feel awful.

You will always want more. Even with a new(er) car you will find thing that piss you off. Guaranteed.

f**k taking getting in debt for a car.

I know loads of people who will and then not be able to even afford to run it and pay for fuel.

I would spend £1.5k or so on the golf, k04 it and then take the piss out of ur mates..

Flip it.

(The scenareo not the car)

From a purely fiscal sense, doing any sort of extensive modification is the same waste of money as buying a newer car. As you will lose the vast majority of it in resale value.

People shy away from the word debt, as its dripping with negative connotations but there is nothing wrong with using disciplined use of credit. A decent second hand car, with the right loan can be affordable and be the most sensible thing to do long term.

The key is to just stress test your finances over the loan period and make sure you are fine even in a doomsday scenario.

The only single peice of advice I would give is dont spend anything significant on a depreciating asset until you have bought a house (or plan to live with your parents until the end of time).

Edit, ive just re read to op. Only buy a new car if you want one for you. Chasing others will only lead to bad things. And with used cars is usually better the devil you know.
