« on: 21 March 2014, 17:35 »
Ige been looking at various conrods for my agu. Now there is maxspeed for £230 with APR 2000 bolts. And there is IE ENGINEERING. Now my question is what else will i need apart from the rods??

I used IE rods as you know there good quality, did see the maxspeed ones, cheaper but didnt know anything about them so didn't take the risk. I kept the agu pistons and replaced rings and big end bearings

If your doing them yourself there are a few guides somewhere, see if I can find what I followed,it lists all the bits, assembly lube, plastigauge etc and how to do it.

nice1 jon. Beach buggy has these maxspeed rods in his and a few others have them in their engine on facebook. With IE they expensive. I was talking to my mate and i mentioned to him about the ACL bearings and he said they are race bearings so get them. I might do it myself of il get my other mate to do it. He has worked on his cosi engine a few times and his imported e30 m3

get what you pay for.   For me IE every time.  quality is superb.  make sure they are rifle drilled too.

ACL bearings for the rods needed too...or OEM replacements.    Remember to check the clearences with plastigauge too.

Im looking at thia website. http://www.ctsturbo.com/cart/products/Integrated_Engineering_Forged_144X20_Rods_1_8T_FSI_Stroker_16V_early_8V_Audi_VW-42-118.html
they offer riffel drilling so ive chosen that. So now to the bearings. They have oem, calico coated +0.000 or calico coated +0.001 so which do i go for? And whats calico coating? Total with riffel drilling and calico coated bearings it comes to £336 without delivery or customs.

I got ACL ones from the UK.  Coodsport i think it was.

plastigauge on the crankshaft and put bearing and tighten end cap on rod....measure the clearances.

Read up on it.

just been reading on it. So basicaly it tells you how much clearance you have between the crank and shell. But now i need to know whats the max clearance you can have on a agu crank? I know this car hasnt been trashed as it was owned by a lady (good thing) another reason i say its not been trashed as i saw the turbo and looked for play, but there wasnt any play at all in the turbo unless the turbo has been changed/reconed. So shal i buy the calico coated +0.000 or the +0.001??
