which kumhos are we talking about, they do make some cheap tyres but also decent ones... same for michelin (if they say miTchelin then they are chinese knock offs  )

but do know where you're coming from.... just had the same thing with lease company (well their 'tyre department' which i think are just kwikfit call centre)... told them 10x i had pirelli p7's.... so what does the bloke turn up with to replace a single tyre... dunlop sport maxx rt.... they are insisting it's equal.... so now got 2 different tyres on the back...

given the choice i would take michelin over kumho, however as several have pointed out, kumho are not a 'cheapo' brand, more mid range along with the likes of avon, hankook, falken etc.  all of which are decent tyres.

kumho is fitted as oem to several brands: http://www.kumhotyre.co.uk/company.php

including the very expensive mini john cooper works gp: http://www.atseuromaster.co.uk/news/tyre-news/kumho-the-exclusive-tyre-supplier-of-mini-john-cooper-works-gp_801534036.htm

if you can get michelin tyres on the rear of your car from the dealer i would, then you have 4 x matching tyres.

Kumho £75

It is the dealer trying to get away with saving a few quid. So many people wouldn't even notice. I bought a year old Yaris for my Dad last year and it needed a pair of front tyres. They tried to get away with putting some shit tyres on it, but I insisted that it had Dunlops to match the rear. It was an approved used car, therefore should be to factory spec. It took a lot of arguing, but I got the Dunlops in the end.

In the case of the GTI, they came from the factory with either Dunlop, Bridgestone, Michelin, Continental or Pirelli tyres. You might be able to convince a main dealer to fit the correct tyres, but if it's an independent trader, as long as the tyres are legal, he's doing all that he has to. I would be prepared to walk away from the deal if he won't fit Michelins for you. It's not as if there aren't other GTI's for sale.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

true, but then why would VW, Merc and Mini fit them if they cheapo tyres.  If manufactures are only interested in cost, why not fit a Wanli or Primewell tyre from factory...

Cos that would probably be going too far and they could possibly cause damage to the car due to failure under warranty maybe

Having had a pair of arrow speeds on the back and falkens on the front when I bought my car. I'm never gonna buy anything but the best I can afford. I've literally only just now got a full set of Goodyear eagle F1's after having the car 18 months. The difference is vast.
