Gti oversteer !!!!
« on: 07 March 2014, 17:47 »
Hello all,

Has anyone experienced quite severe oversteer in their gti ?

Had a bit of a moment the other day in the dry and I was slightly shocked...

Had another run in today which in all fairness I provoked but in my previous car (clio 182) it wouldn't oversteer anywhere near as easily even though the rear suspension set up  on a 182  is more suited  to this to happening.

I thought independant rear suspension like on our gti's was less prone to oversteer.

If someone could offer any light on the handling of these cars it would be great before I start checking things !!

Thanks,

Currently Standard !!

Knackered tyres?

The car has done 12k miles and has loads of tread on the rear still. But that means they are probably the original rears so a bit old and tired regardless of how much tread they have...

The tyres are bridgestone potenzas which are crazy hard tyres and im pretty sure the rears are the originals from factory (correct me if im wrong). I lowered the rear pressure to 36 psi from 38 and that seems to of helped a bit i think.

Yes that will help, rear tyres are what holds a car mid corner, the higher the PSI the less tyre is in contact with the road.

I run 36 all around, but it does help if you have all the same tyres and are a medium compound.
